18 Things to Do in Marbella Beyond the Beach

Marbella doesn’t hide its charms. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Costa del Sol regular, this stunning Spanish coastal city offers far more than luxury beachfront experiences. Here, you can immerse yourself in history, nature, art, gastronomy and Mediterranean energy, all packed into just 117 square kilometres.

Whilst Marbella revolves around the sea and tourism, it also boasts a cultural, natural and sensory offering that surprises visitors year-round. From January through December, there’s always something to do, something to taste, something to discover.

We’ve curated 18 must-do experiences in Marbella that belong on every traveller’s bucket list. Our selection ranges from the best beaches in Marbella, old town walking routes, seaside dining experiences, international DJ parties at Marbella beach clubs, mountain escapes and museums steeped in history.

We’ve done the research for you. Here are the essential experiences, the best-kept secrets… and the ones that’ll make you want to return.

1. Stroll Through the Old Town and Enjoy a Drink at Plaza de los Naranjos

Getting lost in Marbella’s historic quarter feels like stepping back in time. Cobblestone streets, whitewashed facades and orange tree-lined squares that perfume the air create an enchanting atmosphere. Plaza de los Naranjos has been the heart of the old town since the 15th century. It’s perfect for enjoying a coffee, glass of wine or al fresco dinner in surroundings that blend history with Andalusian charm. We recommend visiting at sunset, when the golden light transforms everything.

2. Hire a Jet Ski Near Puerto Banús

One of the most exhilarating experiences in Marbella starts from Playa de la Fontanilla, right in the town centre. The Point Watersports, our water sports base, offers jet ski hire with no licence required – perfect for beginners.

You can book a guided 1-hour tour (€170/jet ski, minimum 2), passing Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile and dolphin-spotting areas. Includes life jacket, safety briefing and instructor.

3. Enjoy Fresh Paella on the Sand with Mediterranean Views

If you visit Marbella without sitting barefoot on the sand enjoying a proper rice dish… you haven’t truly experienced it. At The Point restaurant, situated directly on Playa de la Fontanilla, you can choose from:

Everything is cooked fresh to order using premium ingredients, paired with chilled white wines or premium Verdejo. Service reaches right to your sun lounger, though if you prefer a table, book on the main terrace. Bonus: live jazz during Sunday brunch.

4. Climb La Concha Peak and See the Costa del Sol from Above

La Concha is the mountain that watches over Marbella. Ascending to its summit (1,215m) offers one of those adventures that rewards you with unique views across the entire Costa del Sol. The route starts at El Refugio de Juanar and takes 3-4 hours return. Bring proper hiking boots, plenty of water, and start early to avoid the heat. From the top, on clear days, you can even see the African coast. Not suitable for those with vertigo… but perfect for that Instagram-worthy shot.

5. Indulge in a Barefoot Beach Brunch

Sundays have their own ritual at The Point. From 11:00am, the barefoot beach brunch begins – an experience designed for unhurried relaxation and savouring:

If you fancy extending the experience, you can get priority access to the VIP jacuzzi or stay at the beach club soaking up the sun.

6. Soar Above the Sea Parasailing

There’s no better way to see Marbella from the air than parasailing high above the Mediterranean. From Playa de la Fontanilla, you can experience this unique adventure with direct departure from The Point’s water sports base.

From the sky, you’ll see Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile and the Sierra Blanca mountain range. It’s a peaceful experience, no sudden movements, but absolutely unforgettable. Perfect for couples or friends (up to 3 people per flight).

7. Sunset Sushi Dinner on the Beach

Sushi has found its perfect moment in Marbella, and you can enjoy it without leaving the sand. The Point Sushi Bar offers a Japanese-Mediterranean fusion menu with pieces prepared to order:

Served from 7:00pm until 11:30pm on the terrace, in the lounge area or directly at your sun lounger. Ambient music and the sound of waves complete the atmosphere. Perfect for a special date or relaxed dinner with friends.

8. Rooftop Party with Puerto Banús Views

Marbella never sleeps, and its nights begin on the rooftops. One of the most sought-after rooftops sits above Pangea in the marina. From there, enjoy cocktails with 360° views, international DJs and an exclusive atmosphere.

Entry: €30 (includes drink). Smart dress code required. For something more exclusive, The Point Pool Lounge hosts private parties on its upper terrace, featuring jacuzzi, VIP day beds and bottle service from €150.

9. Cycle Along Marbella’s Seafront Promenade

From Marbella’s marina to San Pedro de Alcántara, there are over 15km of seafront cycle paths. You can hire electric or traditional bikes at The Point (from €20/2h) and explore beaches, beach bars and viewpoints at your own pace. There are shaded areas, water fountains and benches for stopping to watch the sunset. It’s a peaceful, sustainable plan perfect for couples or families.

10. Enjoy Premium Shisha on the Beach

When the sun sets and chill music begins, The Point Lounge terrace becomes the perfect spot to unwind. The premium shishas served here are among Marbella’s most highly rated:

Pair with exotic cocktails like “Tropical Mule” or “Coconut Mojito” whilst enjoying the ambience of deep house music or live DJs depending on the day.

11. Sail the Golden Mile on a Private Yacht

Marbella from the sea tells a different story. From Playa de la Fontanilla, you can board a luxury yacht with skipper included for an exclusive coastal experience.

Perfect for celebrations, romantic proposals or simply treating yourself to a premium moment.

12. Unwind on a Balinese Day Bed Facing the Sea

One of Marbella’s most iconic images: you, on a Balinese day bed beneath palm trees, mojito in hand with the sound of waves as your soundtrack. At The Point Beach Club, you can book your front-row day bed:

13. Gentle Hiking in El Juanar

Just 20 minutes from central Marbella, El Juanar natural area takes you away from coastal bustle into forests of pine, cork oak and Spanish fir. Routes suit all levels, but for something accessible with views, choose the Mirador del Corzo trail.

Perfect for morning exploration, returning in time for seaside lunch.

14. Sunset Stroll Through the Old Town

Marbella’s old town needs no filter. Its whitewashed streets, bougainvillea-adorned balconies, artisan shops and hidden courtyards possess a charm that captivates at any hour… but at sunset, it’s even more magical.

15. Jazz Brunch with Toes in the Sand

On Sundays, The Point hosts one of Marbella’s most sophisticated (and characterful) brunches: toes in sand, fresh oysters, French cava and live jazz.

Perfect for those wanting to start Sunday with calm, flavour and style.

16. Starlit Parties at Premium Beach Clubs

When night falls, Marbella doesn’t slow down: it elevates the experience. At venues like The Point, parties have a sophisticated Mediterranean flair. We’re not talking conventional nightclubs, but multisensory seaside experiences.

Entry from €30, with VIP options from €300 (table + bottle + jacuzzi access). All with a carefully curated, elegant and festive atmosphere.

17. Complete Relaxation at Six Senses Spa (Puente Romano)

In the heart of the Golden Mile, this renowned spa offers wellness treatments inspired by Andalusian sea and land. Their signature ritual: the “Ocean Bliss“.

18. Excursion to Artola Dunes and Swim at Cabopino

For unspoilt nature, venture from the centre to discover one of Marbella’s wildest corners: Artola Dunes, beside Cabopino marina.

Bring a picnic or book at one of Cabopino’s beach restaurants to end the day with grilled sardines or fresh fish.

Everything You Need to Know About Getting to and Around Marbella at Your Own Pace

Reaching Marbella is straightforward if you fly into Málaga Airport (AGP). From there, take the direct Avanza bus (every 30-45 minutes, €10.50) reaching Marbella in about 45 minutes. For comfort or group travel, private transfers start from €90.

Want freedom? Car hire is ideal for exploring the surroundings. Marbella car rental offers rates from €28/day in peak season and from €18/day off-peak – practical for visiting areas like Istán or Ronda. However, avoid driving through the historic centre to avoid fines up to €200.

If you don’t drive, free walking tours (daily from Plaza de los Naranjos) or guided Sierra de las Nieves excursions (€85) are excellent options. For budget parking, Arias Maldonado car park costs just €14.95/day when booked online, or use La Cañada’s free parking with shuttle bus to the centre.

Sustainable mobility? Marbella Bike rentals start from €12/day, but remember: helmet mandatory, lights required and no headphones allowed.

Visiting in summer? Hop on the tourist train for just €5/day to tour the seafront promenade and Puerto Banús without breaking a sweat.

See you this summer 2025 in Marbella… and if it’s at The Point, even better. Book your water sports activities, seaside table or Balinese day bed directly through our website. Make your Marbella experience unforgettable.
